We are honored that you have visited Penzion Šatlava. The building of Penzion Šatlava has a long and colorful history, thanks to which the accommodation has not only taken on its naturalistic appearance and name, but also a unique atmosphere that permeates all its walls, mysterious corridors, and secluded corners. The building got its original name, "imperial house," at the beginning of the 17th century, when it was inhabited by the Lutheran priest Christopher Weyner Trutnov, who served as a pastor here in the first half of that century. The appearance changed when the building was purchased in 1806 by John and Anna of Klimpell. John Klimpell was an imperial official at the banking office, so the building was first used as the seat of the Banking Inspectorate, and then the premises served as offices for the border guard. It is believed that Božena Němcová's husband, Joseph Němec, also worked here. After the Bank Inspectorate was relocated, many other new offices were established in the imperial house (e.g., the District Chamber Office).

Of all the offices that have been located in the imperial house throughout its history, the district court has remained there the longest, thanks to which the name "court" is still associated with this building in the minds of the residents of Nové Město. In the mid-19th century, Nové Město nad Metují was a district town, and therefore it was necessary to build a district prison there. As a temporary solution, the town jail served this purpose, and the garden of the imperial house functioned as a prison yard. In 1850-51, a real prison was built directly above the slope of the imperial garden, which served its purpose for many years. The slope and the path below the building are still known today as "Pod kriminálem" which translates to Under the Jail. Towards the end of World War I, the King of Comedians, Vlasta Burian, was imprisoned here, but he was freed by the coup in 1918. In the 1990s, the court building was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Vláhovi, who used it as the headquarters of their family watchmaking company. With growth and development over the years, the need to change headquarters arose, and the possibility of using these premises for other purposes emerged. Vláhovi decided to restore the building's historical character, bridge the gap between eras, and bring long-forgotten raw stories back within its walls. The current appearance of the Šatlava accommodation reflects their constant hard work, as they carried out a major renovation of the building with great attention to detail. You can now stay in a pleasant, luxurious environment, whose features preserve the character of the historic Šatlava.
